This is an election issue: SIGN OUR NEW PETITION

This week in Edmonton, Senior wins battle versus Canada Post mailbox installations…
Londoners can win too, ‪take action.

Please share this message widely with your friends, family and co-workers. Let’s tell MPs Ed Holder and Susan Truppe and all of our local federal candidates: stop the cuts!

Efforts to oppose Canada Post's SSMB (Self-Serve MailBox) implementation have continued:

On Talavera Cres. concerned residents continue to hold off SSMB's 65 days and counting.

On Magnolia, our garden grows.

Due to delays in installation of SSMBs across the city, Canada Post has postponed their October 19th 'go live' date. However citizen's concerns continue to fall on deaf ears at Canada Post.

Now it’s time to bring our message to our federal candidates in London.

Canada Post belongs to all of us, and it is accountable to our federal government. Please sign our new petition and add your voice to the growing opposition to the Conservatives' cuts to our public postal service.

Let's tell London MPs and all of our federal candidates: the cuts must stop! Please share this message widely with your friends, family and co-workers.

Sign our NEW petition to stop the cuts to door-to-door

Dear Londoners,

Thank you for your support of our efforts to save door-to-door mail delivery in London.

Many of you have already signed our petition asking the City of London’s elected officials to oppose the cuts to door-to-door delivery, and on August 11 2015 and thanks to you we delivered nearly 2900 signatures to London City Hall. We need your support still.

Because of nationwide opposition, concerned Canadians like you have made saving door-to-door delivery a 2015 federal election issue, and all five major parties have taken a position.

On Election Day, please vote to support our public postal service.

Following creative efforts to express community opposition to Canada Post's imposed mailboxes including garden installations by local artist Ron Benner, the corporation has delayed its date for community mailboxes to “go live” in London.

Now it’s time to bring our message to our federal candidates in London.

Canada Post belongs to all of us, and it is accountable to our federal government. Please sign our new petition and add your voice to the growing opposition to the Conservatives' cuts to our public postal service.
Please share this message widely with your friends, family and co-workers. Let’s tell MPs Ed Holder and Susan Truppe and all of our local federal candidates: stop the cuts!

Londoners for Door to Door delivers 2867 support signatures to City Council

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 11, 2015. 11 am. London City Hall.
Londoners for Door to Door delivers 2867 support signatures to City Council

Canada Post has been pushing ahead with installation of Self Serve Mail Boxes in several London neighbourhoods, despite a unanimous request from London City Council last month, to stop work until the Crown Corporation comes back to report on community consultations, as they promised to do in March.

Today, City Council hears from constituents about the importance of continuing this valuable and profitable public service. After months of door-to-door canvassing and signature collecting at community events, Londoners For Door to Door delivered petitions and letters to the City Clerk, signed by the many London residents who want this service to be maintained, not just for themselves but for their parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends.

"We have heard loudly and clearly from community members that nobody wants Canada Post to impose these Self Serve Mailboxes in our neighbourhoods.  Instead, we want to protect jobs and maintain a public service that makes money for Canadians and provides door-to-door mail delivery.” says Wendy Goldsmith.  “It is unprecedented for a G8 country to propose this kind of mail service cut, all thanks to the Harper Conservatives and their drive for austerity."
Londoners For Door To Door continues to be deeply concerned about the lack of community consultation and the lies that appear to flow freely from the mouths of Canada Post spokespeople.  We strongly believe that this is not a done deal, and that municipalities have an important role to play in regulating what a Crown Corporation can do in our neighbourhoods. "Londoners have not got clear answers from Canada Post on this issue" adds David Heap  "but they do have a clear choice in October's federal election: we can oppose the Harper government's imposition of these service cuts, and support the official opposition which is calling for service to be restored and even extended."

Ward 10 Councillor Virginia Ridley was also present when the petitions were received by the City Clerk's office. The issue is due to come up at the next Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee on August 31.

Londoners can still request changes to proposed mailbox locations, see contact information posted here.

We encourage all London residents to call and email their city councillors to urge Canada Post to cease and desist with these actions which clearly violate the public will.

your support for Door to Door mail is needed NOW !

Dear Door to Door supporter,
Our City Council will be considering the whole Canada Post issue on Monday July 27 (in Committee, starting 4 pm) and Tuesday July 28 (full Council, starting 4 pm). This is your chance to help by calling / e-mailing Councillors and the Mayor asking them to support:
  •   a moratorium (halt) to all installation of new mailbox in London, until at least after the upcoming federal election in October, and
  • a full release of all information from City staff about changes made to proposed locations for mailbox installation.
You can find contact information for the Mayor and all the councillors here: http://www.london.ca/city-hall/city-council/Documents/Council-Contact-List.pdf *

Please e-mail and/or call as soon as you can, on Monday if possible, and keep calling and e-mailing through Tuesday July 28 as well.

In the last few days our campaign has drawn attention to Canada Post's dishonesty. Despite their agreement in March to report back to our City Council prior to the installation of Self Serve Mail Boxes, Canada Post has instructed contractors to begin installing concrete pads for new SSMBs.
By simply stopping one pad from being installed for a couple of days, we helped focus attention on this issue. Some City Councillors are saying that Canada Post misled Londoners.
With your help, we can do more in the coming days and weeks. If you can give a few hours of your time, please contact us at people4door2door@gmail.com.

Together we can help save Door to Door mail delivery!

Who is installing super mailbox pads in London? Please help us watch for them!

Installation of preformed concrete pads for self-serve mailboxes (SSMBs aka super mailboxes) has begun in London, despite Canada Post's well-publicized promise to report back to City Council before any cement went in the ground. Londoners4Door2Door continues to protest these ugly invasions of our neighbourhoods, while Canada Post keeps getting bad press for their bad faith, including on London's CTV, since lots of us (including City Councillors Tanya Park and Virginia Ridley) remember their "commitment" to the march 23 Council meeting (also captured on video)

But who is doing the installation work? We have learned that there are at least four different sub-contractors (way to go Canada Post!) involved in these installations in London, and some of the crews have a quota (for example, five pads to be installed per day). In the Kensington area, we learned about two of them:

At the Cavendish Crescent site we saw a truck and equipment from Stone in Style (interlocking stone hardscaping):

while around the corner on Forward Ave. we saw a digger from Hav-All, and a truck from Flandscape :

What other companies are involved in these installations? How many crews are out there, in which neighbourhoods? Your ears and eyes (and cameras!) can help us find out. If you spot any of the above, or other companies's  trucks or equipment, please let us know (day, time & location) as soon as possible. If you can send us a picture of the trucks & equipment, so much the better.

Remember: you have a right to photograph trucks & equipment working in public areas. And since this work is proceeding before the City receives any Canada Post report, you are doing our community a favour and helping to protect our neighbourhoods by documenting these installations.

Thanks! Londoners for Door to Door <people4door2door@gmail.com>

What postal code areas are targeted for 'super' mailbox (SSMB) conversion?

In London, the two areas targeted in 2015 for conversion from door-to-door mail delivery to self-serve mailboxes (SSMBs -- they have nothing to do with 'community') are in the Canada Post Depot 1 area, i.e. parts of postal codes N5V, N5W, N5X and N5Y, and Depot 4 area, parts of postal codes N6G and N6H:
